Description

Heat-welded seams are what make a HydroGrip Motivate floor behave like one continuous surface instead of a set of sheets laid side by side. This is the rod that closes those seams. Each spool carries 328 linear feet of colour-matched welding rod, and ECORE produces one rod for every HydroGrip Motivate colourway so the finished weld line reads as part of the floor rather than a stripe across it. Key details:

  • 328 linear feet per spool
  • Colour-matched to your floor
  • One spool per 328 LF of seam
  • Welded with a hot-air gun
  • HydroGrip Motivate, 7 mm
  • Sold individually, by colourway
  • Made in Lancaster, Pennsylvania

Summary

This is the ECORE weld rod for ECORE HydroGrip Motivate. A welded seam is not a cosmetic detail on this kind of floor: the installer routs a groove along the joint between two sheets, lays this rod into the groove with a hot-air welder, and the rod fuses to both sheets as it cools. What was an open seam becomes a single sealed surface with no path for water, sweat, cleaning chemicals or bacteria to get underneath.

Each spool holds 328 linear feet of rod, which welds 328 linear feet of seam. ECORE offers 6 colours for this line, one per floor colourway, so you order the rod that matches the floor you bought. Worth knowing: ECORE names the rod after its own colour rather than the floor's, so the rod for a given colourway often carries a different name on the vendor's paperwork. We have listed every rod by the FLOOR colour it belongs to, so you can pick the swatch you recognise instead of cross-referencing a code.

Seam rod is consumed by the linear foot of seam, not by floor area, so the quantity you need follows your seam layout. A room run with fewer, longer sheets needs less rod than the same square footage broken into short runs. Measure the actual seam plan and add a margin for the trimming waste at each weld start and stop.

Welding is skilled work and ECORE expects it to be done to their published instructions, which is also what keeps the floor's warranty intact. This is specified for locker rooms, pool decks, showers and other wet areas.

Frequently Asked Questions

One linear foot of rod per linear foot of seam, plus waste. Each spool holds 328 LF.

Rod is consumed by seam length, not by floor area, which catches people out. Work it from your seam plan: add up the total length of every joint between sheets, including any joints against a cove base or transition that will be welded. That figure in linear feet is your rod requirement before waste. Add a margin for the few inches trimmed off at the start and end of each weld run and for test welds. Because the same square footage can be laid out with very different seam counts, two rooms of identical size can need very different amounts of rod.

  • 328 LF per spool
  • 1 LF of rod per 1 LF of seam
  • Measure seam length, not floor area
  • Add waste for weld starts and stops
  • Include cove base joints if welded

The one matching your floor colourway. We list every rod by its floor colour, not ECORE's rod name.

ECORE builds one rod per floor colourway, so there is a correct answer for every floor. The complication is that ECORE names the rod after the rod's own colour rather than the floor's, so the vendor paperwork for a floor colourway can list a rod under a completely different colour name. We have relabelled every rod on this page by the FLOOR colourway it belongs to and used the same swatches you saw when you chose the floor, so pick the swatch you recognise. If you no longer know which colourway you bought, the floor colour is on your original order and we can look it up for you.

  • One rod per floor colourway
  • Listed by FLOOR colour, not ECORE's rod name
  • Same swatches as the floor page
  • 6 colours available for this line
  • We can look your colourway up from your order

No. Welding is what makes the seam watertight and it is a condition of ECORE's warranty.

A welded seam is a fused joint: the rod and both sheet edges melt together into one piece of material. Adhesive or sealant sits in the joint as a separate material with two bond lines that can fail, and it will not survive the cleaning regime these floors are specified for. ECORE requires the floor to be installed to its published instructions for the warranty to apply, and for a heat-welded line that includes correctly welded seams. Skipping the weld does not just risk water under the floor, it risks the warranty on the floor itself.

  • Welding fuses rod and sheet into one piece
  • Sealant leaves two bond lines that can fail
  • Required for the floor's warranty to apply
  • Blocks water, sweat and cleaning chemicals
  • Standard practice for commercial sheet goods

A grooving tool, a hot-air welder with a speed nozzle, and a spatula knife with a trim plate.

The groove is cut with a hand or powered grooving tool set to a consistent depth that stays within the wear layer. The weld itself needs a hot-air welder with a speed nozzle sized to the rod. Trimming needs a spatula knife and a trim plate, which holds the blade off the floor for the first pass. Set the welder from ECORE's published instructions for your floor line and prove the setting on an offcut before touching the floor, because the right temperature depends on the material, the nozzle and how fast the installer moves.

  • Grooving tool, consistent depth
  • Hot-air welder with speed nozzle
  • Spatula knife and trim plate
  • Offcut of the same floor for test welds
  • Set the welder from ECORE's instructions

Only with hot-air welding experience. A bad weld is difficult to correct after the fact.

Welding is a learned skill with a narrow window. Too little heat and the rod sits in the groove without fusing, which looks acceptable until it lifts. Too much and the sheet scorches or distorts along the seam. Trimming has its own technique, and a weld gouged during trimming has to be routed out and rewelded. On a commercial floor where the seam is the waterproofing, this is worth handing to an installer who welds regularly. If you need one, we can help you find one.

  • Narrow heat window, easy to under or over weld
  • Trimming technique matters as much as welding
  • A gouged weld must be routed out and redone
  • The seam is the floor's waterproofing
  • Ask us for an installer referral

After the adhesive has fully cured, never before. Welding into a green bond can lift the sheet edges.

The floor is laid and rolled first, and the adhesive is left to reach full cure. Only then is the seam grooved and welded. Heat applied over an uncured bond can release the adhesive right at the seam, which is the one place the floor cannot afford a loose edge. Cure time depends on the adhesive, the subfloor and the conditions in the room, so take the interval from ECORE's published installation instructions rather than from feel. Keep the room at service temperature through cure and welding.

  • Lay, roll, then let the adhesive fully cure
  • Groove and weld only after cure
  • Heat over a green bond can lift seam edges
  • Cure time varies by adhesive and conditions
  • Hold the room at service temperature

It covers 328 linear feet of seam. Whether that finishes a room depends on the seam layout.

A spool is 328 linear feet, so the question is how many linear feet of seam your layout produces. Wide sheets run in long lengths give a room fewer, longer seams and use less rod. The same room broken into shorter runs, or laid at right angles to its long dimension, can easily double the seam length. Add up the seam plan before ordering, and if you land close to a spool boundary take the extra spool. Running out mid-weld means stopping the job until more rod arrives, and a weld restarted days later is more visible than one run straight through.

  • 328 LF of seam per spool
  • Seam length depends on sheet layout
  • Fewer, longer runs use less rod
  • Round up rather than risk running short
  • A restarted weld is more visible

The same term as the floor it is welded into. ECORE publishes no separate weld rod term.

Once welded, the rod is part of the finished floor system, so it carries the warranty of the floor it is welded into rather than one of its own. ECORE's Warranty Guide lists no independent term for weld rod. That means the coverage you get depends on which line you are welding, and the terms differ across ECORE's range. Confirm the term for your specific floor before ordering. Note too that ECORE requires installation to its published instructions for any warranty to apply, so a poorly welded seam can affect coverage on the floor as well.

  • Rod inherits the floor's warranty term
  • No separate weld rod term is published
  • Terms differ by ECORE product line
  • Correct installation is a warranty condition
  • Ask us to confirm your line's term
