It lets you attach chains or bands directly to the collar for accommodating-resistance training.

Accommodating resistance — using chains or resistance bands alongside free weight — is a common technique for advanced strength athletes to vary tension throughout a lift's range of motion. The Solid Metal collar's removable carabiner gives you a built-in attachment point for this, without needing separate hardware clamped onto the bar.
