14 ECORE Questions B2B Buyers Ask

It depends on the activity, but thicker isn't always better. For areas with machines or lighter weights, 8mm or under is typically fine. For areas with free weights and heavier lifts, 10mm+ is optimal

Choosing the right thickness comes down to what's happening on the floor. Lighter-use spaces like cardio zones, stretching areas, and selectorized machine rooms do well with ECORE's Basic Fit rolls in 6mm or 8mm — they provide solid shock absorption and noise reduction without overbuilding the floor.

General-purpose weight rooms with a mix of machines and moderate free weight use typically land in the 8-9mm range.

For spaces that see heavy deadlifts, Olympic lifts, or frequent weight drops, ECORE's Performance collection in 10.5mm or the Rally line at 14.5mm gives you the impact absorption and subfloor protection those activities demand.

When in doubt, go thicker — the cost per square foot difference is small compared to the protection and longevity you gain.

Not sure what thickness fits your space? Call us or request a free sample to feel the difference.

  • 6-8mm: Cardio, stretching, body-weight, machine areas
  • 8-9mm: General-purpose weight rooms
  • 10.5mm: Functional training, moderate free weights
  • 14.5mm+: Olympic lifting, heavy free weights, weight drops
  • Thicker floors cost slightly more per sq ft but last longer under heavy use

The big differences are aesthetics, installation cost, and portability.

When considering rubber tiles vs rubber rolls in your gym or fitness space, you should consider the following factors:

Appearance: Rubber rolls are often referred to as a seamless product. They get installed tight against each other, leaving no visible seams between them to provide a clean, seamless look. Tiles on the other hand will usually show some kind of seam between them. Some people love this look, and some people hate it — it all comes down to personal preference.

Installation: Rubber rolls are quite technical to install — especially if you've never done it before. We recommend professional installation which we provide as a part of our turnkey solution to outfitting a space. Tiles on the other hand, although still technical, can be performed as a DIY product for those who are handy and don't mind a weekend project. This difference can save a lot of money for those who opt to go the tile route.

Portability: When installed, in most cases, rubber rolls must be permanently adhered to your facilities subfloor, making it a permanent fixture within your facility. Once installed, rolls can never be removed without damaging the material making it unusable anywhere else. Tiles on the other hand are what's known as a 'floating system', meaning they can be installed, and then removed and reinstalled in another location later. This is a great solution for renters, or facilities where you expect a potential future renovation.

  • Rolls: seamless look, professional install required, permanent, less up-front material costs
  • Tiles: visible seams, DIY-friendly install, portable/removable, higher up-front material costs
  • Both made from the same recycled rubber with similar performance

Yes — ECORE offers custom inlaid logos and platforms that are cut directly into the rubber flooring for a permanent, flush finish.

ECORE's ability to customize your floor with colors, logos, and designs lets you embed your school crest, team logo, facility name, or brand mark directly into rolled rubber flooring.

Unlike painted or printed logos that wear off over time, inlaid logos are precision-cut from colored rubber and fused into the floor so they sit perfectly flush with the surrounding surface.

This means they hold up to heavy foot traffic, equipment, and cleaning without fading or peeling. Custom inlaid platforms can also be embedded in your floor to provide clear visual cues to athletes where to stand and where to lift.

Customizations to your floor will add to the lead time on top of standard production, so it's best to plan early. Contact our team for a custom quote and artwork renderings.

  • Logos are inlaid (cut into the rubber), not painted or printed
  • Flush finish that won't peel, fade, or wear down
  • Custom lifting platforms provide visual cues for athletes
  • Available on rolled rubber flooring products or certain tiled products
  • Adds lead time on top of standard production — plan early
  • Contact us for a custom quote and artwork renderings

Most ECORE rolls and tiles are made to order with a 4-week production lead time, plus about 1 week for transit — so plan for 5-6 weeks total. Custom logos and platforms will add additional lead time.

Because ECORE manufactures flooring to order at their facility in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, most products require approximately 4 weeks for production before they ship. Transit time to your location is typically an additional week, putting total delivery at 5-6 weeks from the date your order is placed. Orders consisting of custom logos and lifting platforms can require additional production time on top of the standard 4-weeks — reach out early if customization is part of your plan.

Orders under 100 lbs ship in standard cardboard packaging, while heavier orders are palletized and delivered via truck with a lift gate. If you're working on a tight timeline, give us a call — ECORE occasionally stocks certain colors and products that can ship sooner. We can often work something out when you're in a bind.

  • 4-week production lead time (made to order in Lancaster, PA)
  • ~1 week transit after production
  • 5-6 weeks total on standard orders
  • Custom orders can add additional production time
  • Orders over 100 lbs ship palletized via truck with lift gate
  • Some colors occasionally in stock for faster turnaround — call to check

Sweep or vacuum daily and damp mop with ECORE's E-Cleaner diluted in water — no harsh chemicals needed.

ECORE rubber flooring is low-maintenance by design. For daily upkeep, remove loose dirt and debris with a broom, dust mop, or vacuum. For routine wet cleaning, dilute ECORE E-Cleaner in water and damp mop or run an auto-scrubber across the surface. E-Cleaner is pH-neutral, non-toxic, and biodegradable — it lifts dirt without leaving residue or damaging the rubber.

For a deeper refresh, ECORE's E-Strip removes built-up soil and old finish, and E-Finish applies a protective coating that resists scuffing and black marks.

One gallon of E-Cleaner covers roughly 2,000 sq ft for deep cleans and up to 6,000 sq ft for routine mopping, so a single jug goes a long way. Avoid bleach, ammonia, and solvent-based cleaners — they can break down rubber over time.

  • Daily: Sweep, vacuum, or dust mop
  • Routine: Damp mop with diluted E-Cleaner
  • Deep clean: Use E-Strip to remove buildup, then apply E-Finish
  • E-Cleaner covers 2,000-6,000 sq ft per gallon depending on dilution
  • Avoid bleach, ammonia, and solvent-based cleaners
  • All ECORE cleaning products are non-toxic and biodegradable

ECORE flooring ranges from roughly $3.5–$15+ per square foot depending on the product, thickness, and quantity. Rolls tend to be more affordable per square foot than tiles, and larger orders qualify for bulk project pricing.

Pricing varies based on the product line, thickness, and how much you're ordering. ECORE's Basic Fit rolls in 6mm start on the lower end, while thicker performance products and heavy duty tiles come in higher. Turf products have their own pricing tier as well.

The best way to get an accurate number is to request a quote — we provide bulk project pricing that factors in your square footage, product selection, freight, and installation if required.

Freight and installation are big variables with rubber flooring since it's heavy and no two facilities are the same, so we always quote that separately to make sure there are no surprises. You're also welcome to browse our product pages where we list pricing per square foot on every product.

  • ~$3.50–$15 per square foot depending on product and thickness
  • Rolls are generally more affordable per sq ft than tiles
  • Larger orders qualify for bulk project pricing
  • Freight and installation are quoted separately
  • All maximum prices listed on individual product pages
  • Request a quote for the most accurate project total

Yes — we offer free samples on most ECORE products so you can see and feel the material before committing to a full order.

We know it's hard to commit to flooring based on photos alone, especially when you're outfitting an entire facility. That's why we offer free samples on most ECORE rubber flooring products.

Samples let you evaluate the thickness, texture, color, and density in person before placing a full order. Just contact our team and let us know which products you're considering and we'll get them shipped out. Samples ship via FedEx and typically arrive within a week.

Note that we'll call you prior to shipping out any samples to confirm your shipping address and project details.

  • Free samples available on most ECORE products
  • Evaluate thickness, texture, color, and density in person
  • Contact us via phone, form, email, or chat bot to request a sample
  • Samples typically arrive within a week
  • Great way to compare products side by side before committing

Minimum order quantities vary by product. You can check the MOQ on any product page — the quantity selector will show the minimum and won't let you go below it. If you're unsure, reach out and we'll let you know.

Some ECORE products have minimum order quantities depending on how they're manufactured and shipped. The easiest way to check is on the product page itself — the quantity selector shows the minimum right in the field, and it won't let you select below it.

If you're working on a smaller project and aren't sure which products fit your budget and quantity needs, reach out to our team. We can help you find the right product for your space and square footage. For larger commercial projects, we offer project bulk pricing that brings the per-square-foot cost down significantly — just request a quote with your room dimensions or floor plan and we'll put together a full proposal.

  • Minimum order quantities vary by product
  • Check the quantity selector on any product page for the MOQ
  • Some products are available in smaller quantities than others
  • Larger projects qualify for volume/project bulk pricing

Yes — ECORE rubber flooring can be installed over concrete, plywood, and most existing hard surfaces as long as the subfloor is clean, dry, and level.

ECORE products are designed to go over most common subfloor types. Concrete is the most common and works great with both rolls and tiles. Plywood works well too, as long as it's structurally sound and level. In some cases, you can install over existing hard flooring like VCT or vinyl — just make sure it's clean and firmly adhered to the subfloor underneath. The key requirement across all surfaces is that the subfloor needs to be clean, dry, flat, and free of debris.

For rolled rubber, the subfloor also needs to be smooth enough for the adhesive to bond properly, but not too smooth that the adhesive has nothing to grab onto.

Tiles are more forgiving since they float on top without adhesive in most cases.

If you're unsure whether your subfloor is ready, send us a photo and we'll let you know.

  • Works over concrete, plywood, VCT, vinyl, and most hard surfaces
  • Subfloor must be clean, dry, level, and free of debris
  • Rolls require a smooth surface for adhesive bonding
  • Tiles are more forgiving — no adhesive needed
  • Not recommended over carpet or soft surfaces
  • Send us a photo of your subfloor if you're unsure

No — we coordinate the freight ourselves. You get a delivery date, a liftgate truck, and a single point of contact at Blue Sky if anything goes wrong.

Orders over 100 lbs ship palletized via LTL freight with a liftgate. We schedule the delivery window with you and provide tracking. If the freight arrives damaged or short, you don't deal with the carrier — we file the claim, push the replacement, and follow up.

Most other commercial flooring vendors push the freight relationship onto you with a "not responsible for carrier damage" disclaimer; we don't.

  • Liftgate truck included on heavy orders
  • Tracking + delivery window provided
  • Blue Sky handles freight claims, not you
  • No "carrier disclaimer" language

Tell us within 48 hours. We file the freight claim, ship the replacement, and you don't pay restocking or re-freight fees.

Inspect the pallet on arrival — if you see damage, note it on the BOL and snap a few photos. Send to your sales rep within 48 hours. We file the freight claim, get a replacement order moving, and absorb the freight on the replacement shipment. No restocking fees, no buyer-funded re-orders, no "you should have caught it sooner" pushback.

  • Note damage on BOL + photograph at delivery
  • Notify within 48 hours
  • We file the freight claim
  • Replacement ships at our cost
  • No restocking fees on damaged goods

5-10 years depending on product. ECORE backs the warranty directly; we help you submit the claim.

ECORE Athletic offers a limited warranty against manufacturing defects: 5 years on Basic Fit, 10 years on Performance line products, 5 years on pavers, 5-10 years on turf, and 5 years on vinyl topped products with the exception of Moxie which has 10 years.

The warranty covers material defects under normal commercial use. If you ever need to file a claim, send photos + your order number to your Blue Sky Fitness Supply rep — we package it for ECORE and follow up until it's resolved.
Authorized-dealer status means we're in the loop the whole way.

  • Basic Fit: 5-year limited
  • Performance lines: 10-year limited
  • Covers manufacturing defects under normal use
  • Authorized dealer = direct factory backing
  • Blue Sky handles claim submission

ECORE's vulcanized recycled rubber rebounds far better than generic rubber. Heavy racks, dropped weights, and rolling carts may leave temporary impressions that recover within hours; permanent denting is rare on their products.

The complaint about "permanent denting under racks" is real for cheap recycled-rubber products that use loose/binder-only construction. ECORE's vulcanized composition rubber (VCR) with itsTRU technology bonds the rubber granules into a continuous network, which dramatically improves dent recovery.

Performance Motivate, Rally, Beast, Beast Plus, Monster and UltraTile all use itsTRU and are tested under heavy commercial load.

Basic Fit is fine for cardio/light equipment but isn't recommended under 1000+ lb racks.

  • Vulcanized recycled rubber + itsTRU technology = better dent recovery
  • Performance lines built for heavy commercial load
  • Temporary impressions recover within hours
  • Spec heavier products (Beast / Beast Plus) for racks above 1,000 lbs
  • Basic Fit is for cardio + light equipment, not free-weight stations

ECORE is FloorScore certified and tested to ASTM D5116 for VOC emissions. No detectable rubber smell after the first 24-48 hours of install in a ventilated space.

"Rubber floor smell" is the universal complaint about generic recycled-rubber flooring sold through big-box channels.

ECORE specifically formulates its products for indoor commercial spaces — schools, fitness centers, hospitals — where air quality matters. Every Performance and Basic Fit product is FloorScore certified (ASTM D5116) and CDPH Section 01350 compliant.

There's a faint vulcanized-rubber scent on initial unrolling that dissipates within 24-48 hours of normal ventilation; no long-term off-gassing.

  • FloorScore certified for indoor air quality
  • ASTM D5116 + CDPH 01350 tested
  • No detectable VOC off-gassing after 24-48 hour ventilation
  • Specifically formulated for schools / clinics / fitness centers
  • Generic recycled rubber from big-box channels has no IAQ certification

About ECORE

ECORE Athletic is the commercial-and-fitness division of ECORE International — a Lancaster, Pennsylvania manufacturer with 150 years of operating history. The company processes roughly 474 million pounds of end-of-life commercial truck tires every year, transforming them into 1,500+ product variations sold across 86 countries — 116 million square feet of flooring in 2023 alone. The technology backbone is itsTRU® — a heat-and-pressure process that fuses a colored EPDM surface layer to a recycled-rubber base into a single seamless mat. (The bond is what stops generic recycled rubber from delaminating, curling, and shedding crumb after a year of use.) Brand partners include Equinox, Planet Fitness, and Penske Truck Leasing (a 30-year relationship). Blue Sky Fitness Supply is an authorized ECORE Athletic dealer — direct-from-manufacturer pricing, factory warranty backing, and one Commercial Fitness Advisor on every project, start through year ten.

Why Commercial Facilities Choose ECORE

Most rubber flooring on the market is either residential-grade tiles that gap and curl in the first cold snap, or imported tire-crumb rolls bound with styrene-based binders that off-gas for weeks after install and trigger California Proposition 65 warnings.

ECORE solves both. Vulcanized recycled rubber holds its shape across freeze-thaw cycles, and FloorScore-certified product lines verify the indoor air quality numbers that LEED v4 (Low-Emitting Materials credit), the WELL Building Standard, and most K-12 and healthcare specs accept for IAQ compliance. The performance evidence is in the test data — ASTM F2772 force reduction (Class 1 and Class 2 athletic surfaces), ANSI A326.3 slip resistance, plus the load + chemistry standards published in ECORE’s Lab Floors data sheet (ASTM F970 static load, ASTM F2662 dynamic / rolling load, ASTM F2753 heavy rolling resilience, ASTM F925 chemical resistance to 40+ cleaners and disinfectants), and published warranties from 5 years (entry-level rolls) to 10 years prorated (Performance Rally, Beast, Beast Plus, Monster, UltraTile, Moxie, Heritage Plank) and lifetime (QTscu Acoustical Underlayment). Download the FloorScore certificate, per-product LEED v4 guides, and Guide Specs for your submittal package.

Cheap rubber wears out at year three. ECORE Performance carries a 10-year prorated warranty.

Flooring Formats

Four product formats cover the great majority of commercial flooring scopes:

  • Rolled rubber (Performance Rally, Beast, Beast Plus, Monster, Motivate 7.5mm, Motivate Plus 10.5mm, Basic Fit, Blade 9mm) — fastest install, fewest seams. Default for weight rooms, cardio decks, group fitness studios, and skate / cleat-traffic spaces.
  • Interlocking tiles (Performance UltraTile 1", Performance dBTile 2.5", RageTurf UltraTile, RageTurf Rally Interlocking 12mm, RageTurf dBTile 2.5", PlayGuard 2.5", Basic Fit 8mm Interlocking) — Quad Blok connectors join tile-to-tile without adhesive. Two use cases: portable installs where permanence isn't desired (renters, anticipated renovation, DIY) and thick acoustic decks above occupied space, where the tile format is the engineered solution.
  • Athletic turf (RageTurf, FlexTurf, and FierceTurf families across rolled and tiled formats) — sled lanes, agility zones, functional training corners. Tiled formats also serve acoustic stacked-occupancy use (RageTurf dBTile).
  • Outdoor pavers (PaveSafe pavers, paver tiles, and Big E Tiles in 1" and 1-3/4" formats) — UV-stable, drainage-friendly outdoor walking surfaces, military PT pads, and equine barn aisles.

Plus several formats most "rubber flooring" sites don't carry:

  • Class I Motivate Series (7mm vinyl-topped — eight surface-aesthetic and use-case variants: Bounce 2, Baller, Balanced, Restorative, Serenity, HydroGrip wet-area, Integrity healthcare-rated, Ebb & Flow 6mm-retrofit) — for spaces where the floor is part of the brand experience.
  • Heritage Motivate Vinyl Plank (PVT) — premium 7mm plank format giving the visual look of LVT or wood with the cushion + sound attenuation of a rubber-backed surface. Common spec for hotel fitness lounges, corporate wellness rooms, premium PT clinics. See the PVT vs LVT buyer’s guide for the 7-pillar comparison and headline numbers.
  • Moxie line (Moxie Motivate, Moxie Beast — 10.5mm vinyl-topped over a heavier rubber base) — premium vinyl surface plus heavier substrate for mid-tier commercial fitness with vinyl aesthetic requirements.
  • Class II Baller Rally Laminate (14mm vinyl-on-rubber) — combines Class 2 force reduction with vinyl surface durability. Rare in the category — most vinyl-topped products top out at Class I.

Choosing the Right Thickness

Thickness is a function of impact load and floor structure, not personal preference.

  • 6-9mm Basic Fit: cardio rooms, machine areas, light foot traffic. Not under racks or platforms.
  • 7-8mm Motivate Series: studios, group fitness, multifamily amenity gyms, and any space where the floor's appearance and cleanability matter as much as cushion (vinyl-topped, easy to clean, no rubber smell).
  • 9mm Blade: skating rinks, hockey rooms, golf shops, dugouts — engineered to resist skate and cleat damage that destroys other floors inside a season.
  • 10.5mm Performance Beast / Motivate Plus / Moxie: rack stations, selectorized + plate-loaded machine areas, and dumbbell / free-weight zones — heavier load than cardio, lighter than dedicated platforms.
  • 14.5mm Performance Rally / Beast Plus: school weight rooms, commercial gyms, mixed free-weight + Olympic use.
  • 22.5mm Performance Monster: dedicated Olympic platforms, CrossFit affiliates, repeat heavy-drop zones — and any second-story-and-up install where bumper-plate impact noise transmitting to the unit or floor below is the constraint. The thickness is the noise story, not just the impact story.

Vinyl and plank formats (Class I Motivate 7-8mm, Heritage Motivate Plank 7mm, Class II Baller Rally Laminate 14mm) follow their own thickness logic — selection there is driven primarily by surface aesthetic and cleanability, with structural cushion inherent to the rubber backing.

Subfloor matters too. Concrete on grade is more forgiving than a wood-frame deck above an occupied unit. Add Performance dBTile (interlocking 2.5" acoustic tile, used as the wear surface) or QTscu Acoustical Underlayment (lifetime warranty — installed under your wear-surface flooring as a sound mat) when the fitness room sits above living space.

Installation Options

Four install paths cover every project:

  • Floating tile (Performance UltraTile 1", Performance dBTile 2.5", RageTurf UltraTile, RageTurf Rally Interlocking 12mm, RageTurf dBTile, PlayGuard 2.5", Basic Fit 8mm Interlocking) — tiles join with Quad Blok Connectors, no adhesive. Two use cases: portable installs (renters, anticipated renovation, DIY) and thick acoustic decks where the tile format itself is the engineered solution.
  • Floating roll (Basic Fit) — rolled in place over a clean subfloor with double-sided seam tape. The fastest install and the easiest to relocate. Not specified for Performance or Motivate rolls in commercial scopes — those require adhesive (see below).
  • Adhered roll (Performance Rally, Beast, Beast Plus, Monster, all Motivate Series, all Moxie, Blade) — full-spread E-Grip III polyurethane adhesive for permanent installs. Required for heavy-drop zones, wet areas, and long-life commercial floors.
  • Adhered plank (Heritage Motivate PVT) — full-spread adhesive, plank-format install. Different staging from rolls; same E-Grip III adhesive.

We recommend the right install method on every quote — and ECORE-approved adhesive is included as a line item rather than a third-party add-on. Maintenance products (E-Cleaner, E-Strip, E-Finish) are spec'd alongside so the floor stays warranty-valid. Download the install tech manuals + maintenance guidelines for the spec on file.

Why ECORE vs Generic Recycled Rubber

ECORE and generic recycled rubber differ on three of the most-cited measurables:

  • Vulcanization. ECORE's substrate is heat-and-pressure-bonded under controlled conditions. Loose-binder tile rubber isn't — and loose-binder products curl, gap, and shed crumb under heavy commercial loads. Vulcanized rubber holds its shape and recovers from dent loads.
  • Surface integrity. ECORE Performance products use a separate EPDM color layer fused to the substrate via itsTRU. Generic rubber's color is mixed into the substrate, which fades to chalky gray within a year of UV exposure or heavy cleaning.
  • IAQ certification. FloorScore-certified vs unverified. Imported tire-crumb floors typically off-gas styrene VOCs for weeks after install — the "rubber smell" buyers describe in reviews. ECORE products test below the CDPH 01350 emission thresholds that FloorScore certifies.

By year three, the price gap closes — replacement cost on cheap rubber is near total. ECORE Performance is at the start of its 10-year prorated warranty.

Why Buy from Blue Sky

Three structural advantages over the generic-marketplace path:

  • Authorized ECORE Athletic dealer. Direct-from-manufacturer pricing, factory tech support, full warranty backing. Not a marketplace reseller drop-shipping a brand we don't represent.
  • One Commercial Fitness Advisor on every project. Quote questions, install logistics, post-sale warranty service all handled by the same person from start through year ten.
  • Equipment + flooring on one PO. Most ECORE buyers also need racks, plate-loaded machines, dumbbells, cardio equipment, recovery, and accessories — the gear that goes on top of the floor. Blue Sky carries the full commercial fitness equipment lineup alongside ECORE, so a school weight room, hotel gym, or police station fitness corner ships on a single bundled invoice with a single point of contact. Use the free Gym Layout Designer to plan flooring + equipment in the same canvas.

Lead estimates listed on every quote in writing. Free samples shipped FedEx Ground. Freight and liftgate included. Install on request as a separately-quoted line item. No third-party LTL handoff with a 4-hour curbside window. Scheduled against your turn-season, PIP (hotel renovation deadline), school bond, or AFG grant deadline.
